MOLLY

Sweeping me off my feet is an understatement. After kissing Stephen last night, I woke up today with a spring in my step, feeling lighter than I have in months. As I walk around the house getting ready for work, I decide to put on the slow cooker, so I don’t forget to eat dinner tonight and I have something ready when I get home.

I pause as I hear a knock on the door. It is unusual for this time in the morning, so I peek out of the front window and my heart settles as I see a delivery van out front. Knowing that I haven’t ordered anything, I open the door hesitantly to see a man standing there with the biggest bunch of flowers I have ever seen. He is visibly straining at the bulk of them, and I can’t even see his face because of the number of roses covering it. Opening the door wider, the man walks in and places the roses on the side table and lets out a sigh.

“You are one lucky lady today, miss—they must have cost a fortune. There are five hundred roses in that!” he says, pointing at the large arrangement.

My eyes go wide at his statement. Five hundred roses? I have never seen and certainly have never received anything as extravagant as this.

“Thank you so much,” I say as he walks back out the door and down the path to his van, driving off to his next delivery. Shutting the front door, I look at the flowers. They are so beautiful, and their scent is amazing. With butterflies in my stomach, I reach for the small card poking out and I open it.

500 roses for the 500 moments I have thought about you already this morning.

Have a good day at work.

Stephen.

I am besotted. I have received flowers twice now. He had Gran moved into a private room and had a specialist put in charge of her care. He calls me every day; he has visited my work a few times; we had an amazing time at Romeo’s restaurant earlier in the week, and we had an amazing time with each other last night.

He is such a good kisser, and I am totally enchanted by him. I am also a bundle of nerves because my dating experience is nonexistent, and I have no idea what I am doing.

Is he expecting the same thing in return? I certainly cannot afford big, beautiful gifts such as this, and I feel bad that he is spending his money on me. I take one last smell of the roses before I gather my things and start my commute to work. Back to reality and away from my fairy-tale thoughts of my Prince Charming.
